Salvia leucantha

Name of plant:     Salvia leucantha

Family: Laminaceae

Common names:  Bush Sage, Mexican Bush

Area of garden where plant is found: Walled Garden

Distribution, habitat and conservation status: Mexico, tropical Central America. Widespread.

Description: Bushy, evergreen shrub with felt-green lance-shaped leaves. Wonderful towers of bell-shaped, downy purple and white flowers. Irresistible to touch as they look like soft, fuzzy, purple bumble bees! Perfect for the (very) late summer garden, and a great attraction for the living room vase. Fortunately easy to take cuttings from, as this plant enjoys the tropical climate more than our British winters. However, there is a great mass of them down in the walled garden looking well and colourful.
