Come rain or shine
After last “summer”, it might seem foolish in the extreme to be planning outdoor theatre events here in west Wales. But this year's Garden summer events calendar boasts no less than three dates for fans of al fresco theatrical entertainment.
On Saturday July 25, Merlin is coming home to Carmarthenshire.
Chapterhouse Theatre Company, who are old friends of the Garden, are presenting Merlin the Magician by Laura Turner.
‘Merlin’ follows the company’s successful King Arthur and is a brand new production, with a specially-commissioned script. Alive with music, dance, comedy and drama, the production follows Merlin on his quest to guide King Arthur in his search for the Holy Grail. Among the bright lights of Camelot, a famed new knight will arrive, bringing romance and chivalry to the court. In an exciting world of fearsome beasts and magical creatures, Merlin and the knights of Camelot embark on the most thrilling journey of their lives.
Tickets are on sale now from the Garden and Carmarthen Tourist information Centre. They are £12 for adults and £8 for children with a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) costing £35. Curtain up is 7.15pm but the Garden opens for picnics from 6.15pm. Please bring rugs and low-backed seating. Refreshments will be available.
On Saturday August 8, outdoor theatre specialists Taking Flight Theatre company presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Many believe Shakespeare wrote Dream while visiting Wales. It is thought he was inspired by Welsh folklore, myths and legends which means it fits beautifully into the Welsh countryside. Accompanied by live music, the audience literally follow the lovers deep into the woods, stumble upon all the mischief and trickery in fairyland and get caught up in the confusion and hilarity, in a story of love, magic and mayhem.
On Saturday August 22, Quantum Theatre returns to the Garden with a new production of Alice Through the Looking Glass.
Alice starts at 2.30pm on Millennium Lawn
For Dream and Alice, there is no additional charge for the performances in addition to the normal admission prices:
£8 adults, £6.50 concessions, £4 children (5-16) under 5s free. A family ticket (2 adults and up to 4 children) is £19.50. Visitors are also encouraged to bring pinics, rugs and low-backed seating. Refreshments are available.
Please be aware, there are outdoor theatre events and will take place outside (that is not undercover and definitely not indoors) in all but the most extreme weather conditions.
