April 12-27th: Free Easter family activities every day 12-4pm. Join us for a Tree-mendous time including drawing trees with quills, tree herbalism, easy tree identification, willow weaving, making stick people and whistles, tree name plates and tree leaf challenge. On Good Friday and Easter Monday, we’ll be running a Teddy Bear’s picnic – we’ll have lots of Teddy Bear’s here but if you want to include your favourite teddy, please bring it with you if you want to

April 17 to May 31: ‘The New Sylva’ exhibition in the Gallery A major exhibition of drawings from The New Sylva book together with information panels covering the history of the publication of John Evelyn’s Sylva abook 350 years ago. PLUS behind-the-scenes stories of the making of the book and an accompanying New Sylva Garden Trail.

Good Friday: April 18: Enjoy the magic stylings of Jugglestruck, the duck herding delights of the world-famous Quack Pack and Llanarthne Dancers

April 19: More magic from the conjuring cabinet of Jugglestruck plus Tractor Safari to see the spring lambs, and Quack Pack

Easter Sunday, April 20: thrill to the aerobatics of Black Mountains Falconry, the music of Fiddlebox and a Tractor Safari across the National Nature Reserve.

Easter Monday, April 21: There’s more birds of prey action by Black Mountains Falconry, the musical stylings of popular folk duo Fiddlebox, and the Tractor Safari PLUS a fabulous Easter Bonnet Parade by the delightful Dyfed Carriage Club.

April 26-April 27 : Woodland Walk Weekend – the A, B, C of woodland flowers. Come and see our Anemones, Bluebells and Celandines, plus expert-led woodland guided walks at 12noon and 2pm, and family activities.

All of May: Medicines in May. Tours, talks, exhibition, events and family activities linked to the theme of Plants for Health. Includes three weekends that reflect the historic use of medicinal plants here at the Garden.

On May 3/4 come and experience life in the 1620s, the time when the first Middleton Hall was built here.You’ll get the chance to meet and talk to the wise woman of Llanarthne, Mary Middleton the lady of the hall and her lady’s maid Anwyn. Expect dancing to ring-a-ring-a-roses, herbal remedies and 1600s craft making.

On May 10/11, a garden wide trail will take you back to 1824 the year William Paxton, the creator of the Regency Garden here, died. Come and talk to the household cook Widdy Morris and the Scottish head gardener David McNichol. You’ll get the chance to dress up like the boy gardener David Morgan, and to earn farthings and pennies to help you to  take part in the auction of Middleton Hall.

On May 17/18, we’ll be taking you back to 1914 when former Middleton resident and suffragette Alice Abadam will be visiting our Apothecary’s Hall pharmacy. Inside, she, and you, will come across an apothecary and one of the first female apothecaries in Carmarthenshire. You’ll also be able to talk to a nurse who is preparing for the upcoming First World War. Expect costumed people, children’s games from 1914, music, make your own prescriptions and a fun trail.

May 3, 4 & 5, Bank Holiday Weekend: Crafts in Action. Three fabulous days of demonstrations, displays and stalls by local crafters. Plenty to see and do, marvel at and have a go at - plus family fun, music and more.

Saturday May 10: Amy Wadge in Concert one of the country’s most successful singer/songwriters is back in the Garden. Hooray! In the Great Glasshouse 2pm

May 16: Members’ Day. A special Garden Party for all our members. Come and hear talks, take walks and find out what’s been going on at the Garden and what developments are in the pipeline. Members only

May 16-17: National Botanic Garden of Wales Annual Plant Sale Wednesday 21st May. From 10am-5pm, join modern day herbalist Nicola Dee Kelly in the Apothecary’s Hall where she will tell you about the modern day use of medicinal herbs and show you how to make your own herbal medicine chest. 10-5pm. From 12- 12.20pm, join beekeeper Lynda Christie in the Bee Garden to find out how honey bees continue to improve our physical and mental health.

Saturday –Sunday 24-25rd May. Be Nice to a Nettle Weekend. Discover wonderful herbal uses of the common nettle with herbalist Nicola Dee Kelly.

May 24, 25, 26:  Hobbies Weekend From dolls’ houses to dancing,  cookery, canoeing and crochet – we’ve got it going on. Plus family fun, magical moments and balloon modelling by Jugglestruck and music by Fiddlebox.

May 24:  Safely observe the Sun with Swansea Astronomical Society.  Also includes a talk on the birth, life and death of the Sun at 12pm by Brian Stokes and another at 2pm on AstroNavigation by Mark Kerr. And if you have any problems with your telescopes please bring them along and we will try to help you.

On Sunday 29th June 2014 BBC Radio 4′s Gardeners’ Question Time is bringing its annual Summer Garden Party to our gardens for the first time! The GQT Summer Garden Party is a unique opportunity to enjoy two recordings of the BBC’s flagship gardening radio programme. You’ll meet the GQT team, be able to put your questions to them in person and there’ll be demonstrations and horticultural happenings all across our gardens, including music, food and activities for all the family.
The party will feature the pick of the crop of gardening gurus, including Bob Flowerdew, Bunny Guinness, Chris Beardshaw, Matthew Wilson, Pippa Greenwood, Matthew Biggs, Carole Baxter and GQT chairmen Eric Robson and Peter Gibbs. So come along, meet the team and get your gardening problems solved once and for all!
